Good, solid knife
6 October 2018I picked up this Tanto knife when it was on offer - and at a crazy $30 EXTAC certainly put out an offer I couldn't refuse... On pulling it from the scabbard and with first grip, the knife is nice and heavy and the handle is solid and round in the hand, the serrated surface making for firm, no-slip contact. This knife feels really firm in the hand - and I mean firm. If you want this for tasks where you hand isn't slipping, it will perform brilliantly with the deep front quillon fitting snugly on the forefinger and thumb, and the scooped pommel keeping it from slipping forwards out of the hand. The blade is thick and looks like it will handle plenty of heavy tasks, although the writing and pictures all over it cheapen the look (in my opinion) and make it look more like a toy... The sawback really, really isn't a sawback and they should have made the depressions sharper and deeper for sure - the only thing this knife could saw is a sheet of gyprock... I absolutely cannot see why this design was implemented... it would take me a week to saw through a branch. Bizarre. The blade is decent for the price and the point is very sharp, and being 440 steel (440C? Not sure) is fairly hard and will hold it's edge for a while. It was sharp - not razor sharp - but is sharp enough for most tasks, camping, cutting etc. This knife would definitely make a good fighting knife with the thick blade, sharp tip and guarded-grip. Good knife!
