Built just as tough as the Gator Machete, the Junior is shorter and more packable. The two-sided blade has both a fine edge for hacking brush and vines and a rough cut saw edge for cutting branches, limbs and small trees. It’s a high-carbon steel shaft with a Gator grip handle. For back-country travel, when every bit of weight is accounted for, the Gator Jr. is the right machete.

10 November 2015Great machete, awesome price on special! Compact size and weight make it easy to use and low effort exhaustion. The clever handle design makes using the saw side as comfortable as the standard grip. Out of the box the blade does benefit from a fine grain sharpening stone over it to make a very sharp edge. I may also swap out the rope lanyard for some paracord just to make it feel better. The sheath is good no frills, does the job and is of a rigid design. I have quite a few Gerber products and this is certainly a great addition to the tool set.
